Georgia HB 89 Passed- biggest gun reform in Georgia’s history

Published by crime_watcher at 8:39 pm under Politics Edit This

Watch out criminals - we are pistol packing, law abiding, citizens of Georgia - or we will be on July 1.

Last week Governor Purdue passed House Bill (HB) 89 to go into effect July 1, 2008.
HB 89 allows people to carry guns in more public places, including public transportation, state parks, wildlife management areas (WMA’s), historic sites and public buildings in those sites. It will also allow people to carry guns in business parking lots and restaurants that serve over 50% food, even if they serve alcohol. The bill applies to individuals who have a current Georgia Firearms License (GFL) permit; however, the bill also allows guns to be carried in vehicles with or without a GFL permit as long as the carrier is a law abiding citizen.

Restaurant workers are very upset about the law and wanted Governor Purdue to veto it. The law states that if you are carrying a gun, you will not be allowed to drink. This doesn’t ease the mind of restaurant workers who fear people will drink and banish their firearms when they get drunk. The Georgia Restaurant Association, wondering how waiters and waitresses are to keep patrons who are packing from drinking, is prepared to go to court.

Marta drivers have petitioned over 1,000 signatures demanding bullet proof shields in their buses. Also protesters question the security of the airport since MARTA has a station inside the Atlanta airport.

Supporters of the bill say criminals do not follow the law anyway and people should be able to protect themselves. Already 44 states in the nation allow people to carry weapons on public transportation.

With the new law, hikers in the woods will be protected from the likes of Gary Michael Hilton. Car Jackers might think twice before jumping in an occupied vehicle. Robbers might reconsider running in that convenience station waving a pistol if they don’t know how many law abiding citizens are in there packing their own weapons. A child may not be snatched when a mom turns her back for a second if the pedophile considers the possibility of the child screaming and ten child protecting, weapon carrying, bystanders being in ear shot. Look at my article that shows what happened to crime when the city of Kennesaw made it law that every head of household in their city must maintain a firearm and ammunition. At that time the media expected Kennesaw to revert back to the days of the Old West when shootouts were used to handle disputes but the city of Kennesaw proved them wrong.

Thank you, Governor Purdue, for not vetoing.pistol
